This week we headed down to an estate where we had been a few times already as we have a contract to change most of the VELUX roof windows there.  Today we were changing one VELUX roof window.

This time we had to change quite an uncommon size, its called a velux C01.  Which measures externally 550 x 700mm.  Not one which VELUX stock anymore.  We got hold of the roof window and set to work.

Here is the old VELUX roof window.  It would not close properly anymore and was worse for wear.

We then removed the sash (the part where the glass is).

Then we readied the new VELUX roof window (it looks so nice and fresh and little).

We then removed the frame of the old VELUX roof window.

Next step… put new frame in!

After some messing around outside on the roof around the window, to make it watertight, we then inserted the new sash and we were done.

This week we made our way round the delightful M25 to Southall. This valued customer had two old Roto roof windows in his loft conversion that he had done many years ago. The current roof windows had seen better days. We were called in to replace the windows with new VELUX roof windows and in white.

We set to work…

This is one of the roof windows, this one was set lower down as it was a means of escape roof window.

The first thing we had to do was to remove the tiles from around the roof window.  This will allow us to remove the flashing kit.

We then removed the old roof windows.  Here they are in all their glory!

Once the VELUX roof windows are in place, we fit the flashing around the window.

We then retile the outside of the VELUX roof window.

This week we were blessed with lovely weather.  Perfect for fitting a roof window.  In fact today we are replacing an existing roof window.  The current roof window was very worse for wear and of such an age that we didn’t even know what make it was (I know we are shocked too!).

Time to get to work.

We started by removing the sash, this was tricky as it was sealed shut, you can see from the images how bad a state the window was in.

We managed to release the sash from its seal and remove it from the frame.

It was then time to move the tiles out the way and remove the frame from the roof.

Fantastic and neatly done too.  Time to get the new Fakro roof window out the van and ready to install onto the roof.

Once we removed the sash from the frame, we install the new Fakro roof window frame onto the roof.

Looking good! looking good! Now we have to install the flashing kit around the Fakro roof window (the flashing kit is what keeps the water out).

All done and ready to put in the Fakro roof window sash.

It’s in and looks great.  Good job!

Location – Norwood, London

Good afternoon from south London.  We have arrived at a lovely family home in Norwood, south London.

Today we are installing the Easiway loft ladder.  An ideal solution for basic storage use/occasional use.

For this loft ladder, there is no need for any cutting in the ceiling.  Its a case of installing the loft ladder into your current hatch opening.  Your home is probably like most others and has a hatch you push up and to the side.

For this loft ladder, we would hinge the hatch down and put a catch on it.  However this situation today is slightly different and the current opening was much larger than the average and so the hinge down door would prove difficult to operate.  Fear not, we have the answer…

…Lets get to work…

First we removed the current hatch cover and got the ladder prepared and ready.

01_current_loft_hatch  02_preparing_new_loft_ladder  03_preparing_new_loft_ladder_2

We then had to ensure the loft ladder was secured to the hatch opening.

All secured, lets give it a little test to see if its stable.

All good, lets check it out stored away.

Right, ladder done.  Its time to unleash the cunning plan for a manageable hatch door.

11_applying_first_half_door  12_applying_first_half_door_2

Only half a door? …we are not finished yet!

Ah I see, clever clever!

Excellently done! If you would like a loft ladder installed like this one, click here to fill out the form and we will contact you to discuss your availability.
