Location – Stratford, London

This week, we are towering high in an old warehouse )which many years ago was converted into apartments) to install a Velux skylight.  One of the skylights was in need to replacing.

We had marvelous views of the Olympic Village, what a great year 2012 was, lots happened.

Ok back to the matter in hand, the new skylight… in step the loft shop fitting team!

The skylight currently in place is 780 x 1400 in size.

Time to get to work…

Now the skylight is removed, lets admire the view for a second… take it in…

02_view_from_old_velux_roof_window

What a view from the velux skylight! the Olympic stadium in all its glory!

Ok back to work… we remove the slates from around where the Velux skylight is going to go.  This is so we can fit the new flashing kit.

Looks good! lets see how we are doing on the outside.

07_re-applying_roof_slates

Looks neat and tidy, we just need to get the rest of the slates on the outside of the Velux skylight.

Once that is done, let’s get the sash ready to install into the frame.

Today we are fitting the Easiway loft ladder, this product is an ideal solution for simple basic storage use/occasional use.

For this particular loft ladder, there is no need for any cutting in the ceiling, it’s a case of installing the loft ladder into your current hatch opening/hole.  Your home like most others probably has a hatch you push and to the side, for this loft ladder, we would hinge down the hatch and put a twist catch on it.

Lets get to work…

01_current_loft_hatch

This is probably a similar situation to what you have at home, a hatch door that you push up and put to the side.

02_current_loft_hatch_2

We remove the hatch door and set it to the side because we can use it.

Now we prepare the Easiway loft ladder for installation

Quick check of the time there Mr Fitter? yes we are on time (well of course)

05_preparing_loft_ladder_3

While we were preparing the loft ladder, something appeared at the top of the stairs!

Location – Highams Park, London

This week, we were in East London to create a new opening in a more suitable location for this valued customer to have their timber loft ladder installed.

Timber loft ladders come complete with their own insulated hatch and frame so are ideal solutions to keep draft out.  Timber loft ladders are also very robust so ideal for often use.

This week we are installing a timber loft ladder with a hatch size of 1300 mm in length and 600 mm in width.

Lets get to work making a new hole!

This is where the new hole is going to be cut.  Lets get the dust sheets down!

02_laying_the_dust_sheets

Dust sheets down, we got to keep it clean!

It is now time to start creating the new opening for the timber loft ladder.

New opening made (don’t worry about the jagged edges, this will all pan out).

It’s time to get the timber loft ladder ready to fit into place.

Timber loft ladder ready.  Time to install into the newly formed opening.

09_new_timber_loft_ladder_in_place  10_securing_timber_loft_ladder

Timber loft ladder in place and secured.  Now we have to ensure the bottom of the ladder hits the floor nicely, so we have to cut the ladder to size.

11_new_timber_loft_ladder_in_place_2  12_new_timber_loft_ladder_in_place_3

Excellent, all nice and level.  Lets have a look at what it looks like from above (just because its fun to climb up and down).

13_new_timber_loft_ladder_from_top  14_easy_access_to_loft_space

Fantastic! looks great, now what about those edges? we need to finish the timber ladder off nicely.

“Don’t worry” the fitter says…

15_applying_architrave  16_applying_architrave_2 17_applying_architrave_3  18_new_timber_loft_ladder_fitted

Okay fair enough, that looks great.

19_new_timber_loft_ladder_fitted_2  20_new_timber_loft_ladder_fitted_3

Awesome, and who would have thought, 4 hours ago that was just a ceiling with no good access to the loft space.  Great job!

Location – Whitechapel, London

This week we were back down to the estate in Whitechapel to replace another two VELUX roof windows.  These roof windows were in serious need of replacing.

Todays roof windows are 780 x 1400 in size.

Lets get to work…

Here are a few pictures to give you an idea of the state they were in before we came to the rescue.

01_old_velux_roof_window 02_old_broken_velux_roof_window 03_old_broken_velux_roof_window_2 04_old_broken_velux_roof_window_3

You can see from these images the urgency needed to change the VELUX roof windows.  This poor customer was sleeping in a room full of draft, not good for their health.  We will put it right.

First we set out removing the old VELUX roof windows.

05_removing_old_velux_roof_windows

We then set out placing the new ones into position.

06_getting_new_velux_roof_windows_ready 07_installing_new_velux_roof_windows 08_installing_new_velux_roof_windows_2 09_installing_new_velux_roof_windows_3

Great work mr fitter! lets take the camera outside and have a look at the roof windows from the outside.

10_new_velux_roof_window_in_place 11_new_velux_roof_window_in_place_3

Looks really neat! and draft proof!

Back to the inside as we put a nice timber piece in the middle of the two windows to give a lovely effect.

12_new_velux_roof_windows_fitted

Mr fitter, this is a bedroom.  Didn’t the customer also ask for blinds? it may be draft proof but they need to be able to sleep too… no problem!

13_installing_velux_roof_window_blinds 14_installed_velux_roof_window_blinds 16_new_velux_roof_windows

Fantastic, lets see how it came out.
